Last Sunday, November 14, 2010 we dedicated Adalyn to the church. We pledged to raise her in the church and the congregation pledged to help us do that. There are many things that make this memorable for us.
First, as a baby I was baptized in the Methodist Church and both Ryan and I were raised in Christian households. From the moment we first met, this was an important factor in our lives and we always knew we would raise our children going to church. On May 6, 2007 Ryan and I were baptized as adults in this same church and committed our own lives to following Christ.
Also, so many family members were there to celebrate with us- my parents and grandparents drove up from Athens to be here for the weekend, BMom and Fykey, Grandaddy and Grandma Mel, Rebecca and Danny and the boys. We are blessed to have family in the faith to support us as we go.
Third, Ryan and I just finished a study with our Community Group called "Entrusted With a Child's Heart" which calls us to think about what raising a child in the church really means and how we must be purposeful in every area of their upbringing. Most importantly, we must trust that God will be faithful in bringing them to Himself in his perfect timing while we trust in Him to do this. Out of the 6 families in our Community Group, 5 of us have had babies within 9 months of each other and we all were there to dedicate our babies together. It means so much to have the support of the other couples in our group while encouraging each other along the journey of parenthood.
During the ceremony, one of the verses we memorized during our Entrusted study was spoken by the pastor of our church: "These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up." Deuteronomy 6:6-7
It is my prayer that Adalyn comes to know the Lord as her Savior and King, while seeking Him with all her heart and growing as a disciple of Christ. We love you, baby girl!
