Adalyn is half a year old and although her development was slow this month, she has accomplished several smaller milestones:
- She moves objects between hands and uses her fingers to touch objects
- She can sit really well in the bumbo, lean over to pick something up, and sit back up
- Plays with her feet and thinks they are so entertaining when over her head
- Still loving the exersaucer toys, but can plant her feet a little better now
- Laughs out load- especially at Skylar and young kids
- Eating solids!
Her first time eating rice cereal was not a success- we came home from church (we go to Saturday evening services) and it was a little late for her- around 6:30pm. She wound up crying, sucking her thumb, and turning her head away from us. Everyone told me their kids eat around that time so you can introduce the concept of "dinner," but that just didn't work for us. She also really disliked her high chair so we moved her to the bouncy seat. Lessons learned are 1) her food must me warmed 2) she likes to eat in her bouncy seat and 3) she must eat earlier in the day (around 4pm). So far, she has enjoyed tasty delights such as rice cereal, oatmeal, peas, and green beans. We'll get to yellow veggies next!
Otherwise, Adalyn fought an ear infection all month. We tried several rounds of antibiotics, none of which were making a hint of progress with her ears. So she had to take a round of 3 shots, which wasn't the most fun for any of us. However, a week later her ears looked clear to praise the Lord we can go on vacation next week! We'll probably continue to keep an eye on those- especially through the winter months as colds become common at her school.
The funniest thing that happened at her 6 month check up was her physical development. She now weighs a whopping 19 lbs 3 oz (90th percentile), is 26.5 inches long (75th percentile), and her head size is off the charts above the 100th percentile! Folks, we have a SMART baby on our hands!
So without further delay, here is our beautiful little chubby girl at sixth months:
